The Web Safe Colors palette has 216 colors and is deemed safe for the web, because most monitors, including very old monitors can display these 216 colors correctly. Another factor to consider is web to print, i.e., will the printer be able to print the colors on the screen. This is particularly important for designers in web to print industries. Each of the 216 colors in the Web Safe Colors palette will display properly irregardless of which browser you are using, i.e., Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, Safari, AOL, Opera, Live Rendering or other browser types, and irregardless of which platform you are using, i.e., PC (personal computer) or Mac (Apple or Macintosh computer).

We are limiting our membership subscriptions at this time, for among other reasons, to provide the highest quality experience for our subscribers. Once the memberships reach a total of 1000, The Color Tool's present subscription plan will be closed. A new plan will likely come with a higher price, as well as higher functionality. Members already grand-fathered in will have the option to upgrade to these additional plans and options, although some of the increased functionality may be provided to the first 1000 members gratis.

Please note that the code on this page is heavy, i.e., in kilobyte size, as compared to the members version of this page. The members directories of The Color Tool are incredibly fast, as the site relies primarily on HTML and JavaScript code and not on images. Members have access to all of the colors available in the palettes displayed on the left. If you are into color this is the site for you, as we are working to add even more incredible color options and text effects, as well as more palette and color options. If you have a palette that you would like to see on our site that presently is not displayed in the list on your top left, then please let us know. We have image and file uploading programs to allow you to submit photos, documents and even multimedia files. If you submit a palette or color file that we end up using on The Color Tool, we will give you credit for the submission by listing your name, email address and/or web site on our links page, along with a description of you and/or your company, if you wish. Our web uploading program is presently available to those with current and valid subscriptions to The Color Tool.

Most of the palettes displayed at The Color Tool have a width of 300 pixels. The height varies. We have done our best to accommodate all viewers, including those viewing with their monitors set to a screen resolution of 800x600. The Color Tool displays the Hex Values and/or Color names in Tool Tips. What is a Tool Tip you may be asking? A Tool Tip is the small box that appears when you hover your mouse over a link or an item and the name or description of that item appears in a graphical box right by your mouse pointer. If you hover your mouse over the colors in the palette, whether you be on the background or foreground palette, a Tool Tip will appear displaying the Hex Value. In some cases the Tool Tips for the colors also include the Color name, as in the Web Named Palette, where you will find names like "LightSteelBlue" and the HKS palette options, where each HKS Color also has a specific HKS Value, i.e., HKS 56 K.

The Color Tool is Where Colors Are Displayed, as there are literally thousands of color combinations available for you to choose from at your own discretion. You get to see how a particular background color look with a specific font color, instead of putting up a site that has dark text on a dark background, or vice versa, and is very hard to read. Each page in The Color Tool that contains a palette with color changing options and/or font chaning options includes a Note Pad, which allows you to write your preferred colors and/or other notes and email them to yourself.

Whether you subscribe to The Color Tool or not, if you are in the design industry, it would behoove you to calibrate and profile your monitor. A monitor profile is the first profile you should create. Seeing color accurately is crucial, especially if you are making creative decisions involving the color you specify in your documents. Other factors to consider include Color Management, Color Settings and Color Space. Color Management assigns a profile to images that are generally all in the same profile. Color Settings include North America Web/Internet, North America Prepress 2, North America General Purpose 2, Monitor Color among others. It is a good idea to synchronize your design program for the color setting that is right for you and your project. The sRBG color space allows you to see how colors will display on non-calibrated monitors.

The Color Tool, as you may have noticed on our Home Page, includes music. Thus, you can sit back in the comfort of your home or office and/or elsewhere, listen to beautiful and interesting music and experiment with thousands of color combinations. Our site has a wide variety of music, including rock, jazz, classical and even some country. Outside of the common Hex Value and RBG Value methods of defining color there are other methods, including color models based on CMYK, HSV (Hue Saturation Value), HSB (Hues Saturation Brightness), Grayscale and others. CMYK is the abbreviation for cyan, magenta, yellow, black. CMYK colors are used in a four color print process. Grayscale is an image representation whereby each pixel is represented by a single sample value representing overall luminance on a scale that goes from black to white.

Most web and graphical design programs include methods of adding specific colors to what is referred to as a Swatches Library. A Swatch Library is a predefined list of colors or are colors that you have chosen to be placed in the library and will generally be used often. Additionally, most web and graphical design programs include some form of Color Picker, where you can actually pick a color on the monitor with your mouse and the program will grab that color and put it in your color swatches library.

For example, members can work with these Palette options: ANPA Colors, DIC Color Guide, Focoltone Colors, HKS E, HKS E Process, HKS K, HKS K Process, HKS N, HKS N Process, HKS Z, HKS Z Process, Mac OS, Photo Filter Colors, Toyo Color Finder, Trumatch Colors, Visibone, Visibone2, Web Hues, Web Named, Web Safe Colors, Web Spectrum, Windows, plus others.
