Where Color Is DisplayedÂ
Welcome to The Color Tool. Our web site is dedicated to the display of color combinations, changing css styles, and displaying many powerful and unique color tools and font tools. Our member's web site enables subscribers to view and experiment with thousands of color combinations On The Fly. Web site designers, graphic designers, teachers and students can all benefit from the color tools and font tools our web site displays.
HTML Color Code
Our site is full of various code elements, many of which we display, including html color code. Although we are using the term html color code, it is more proper to refer to these 6 character color codes as Hex Values. The hex values are displayed in two places, the most obvious is in the text fields below each color palette. However, you can also view the hex values by hovering your mouse over any of the colors and that particular color code value will be displayed in a little yellow tooltip.
Color Palette
We presently have 23 different color palette options, all of which can be combined one with the other. For example, if you want to work with the Web Safe Colors Palette for the background and foreground, but you want your font colors to be from a different color palette, you can quickly and easily choose amongst all of the color palette options. The Jump Menus displayed below each color palette enable members to switch between all of the color palettes displayed within our site.
Change CSS
Cascading Styles Sheets are a remarkably beautiful yet complex way of adding style to your web pages and web sites. Most of the actions that take effect within our web site involve the changing of particular css elements and properties. Choosing effective and pleasing css definitions and properties can enable your web site visitors to have a more unique and enjoyable experience. The Color Tool can help you find pleasing color combinations for your web site design and computer graphic design projects. To change css on the fly is a a great way to enhance a web site's appearance and attract more visitors. At our site you can change css properties to change the background colors, font colors, link colors, font types, font sizes, cursor styles and many other formatting and style attributes.
XML Files
XML offers an incredible means to add content to your web pages dynamically. XML files are like small, to medium to large multipurpose storage files for content and data that stand waiting and ready on the web server, generally for you, the client, after making a request for data or content. The web designer has generally anticipated what you might benefit from seeing next. However, instead of crowding all of that data onto the web page, xml files are used and the web browser makes some form of an XMLHttpRequest. The data then displays itself on the web page dynamically without weighing down your computer and usually does so very quickly.

Writing Color Code
Our site is full of color code tools to make finding color combinations faster, easier and fun. We have added plenty of new color pages and color code tools to our public site. Check out the text links section to the left, where you will find many different color pages with many different color code tools. It is important for you to learn how to insert color code into your web pages and/or css documents. For starters, if you are using Color Names, such as Black, White, Red, Green or Blue, you do not need to place a # sign before the color name. However, if you are using the actual hex values, also known as html color code values, then you do need to use the # sign in the code of your html pages or css documents. For example, Black = #000000, White = #ffffff, Red = #ff0000, Green = #008000 and Blue = #0000ff. For the sake of appearance, when we dislay color code in the text fields above, we are using capital letters. However, in the code of your html pages, you should use lower case characters when writing your color code. Conversely, when you are writing your css documents, use upper case characters when writing your color code.

The Color Tool was made on a Mac and therefore inherently functions and appears beautifully in Safari. If you are on a Mac with OS X, version 10.4 or higher, your view of our site should be flawless. Some of the Jump Menu color effects we have included, however, do not show up in Safari, therefore, also check out our site in Firefox and/or Internet Explorer, Netscape or Opera, as each of these browsers displays our web site with slight variations.
It is very likely that you are viewing our web site right now in Internet Explorer, as approximately 70% of computer users are using Internet Explorer. If so, please note that web site designers have a task of making sure their intended design is viewed across all of the major browser types, which include Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, Safari, Opera, RealPlayer and AOL. It is sometimes a daunting task to get a site to appear and function uniformly across all browser types. Hopefully, in the future, there will be a uniform set of style and format rules that will become followed across all of the different major browser types. Until that day comes though, web site designers are stuck with the task of making things appear the same in the best way possible.
Some web site designers imploy different methods of handling these issues, which include loading different css files for different browsers. At this time, for the sake of efficiency, we are not incorporating this technique. As such, the blue tabs above presently contain a bit of padding below each tab in Internet Explorer, wherein this was not intended. Check out our home page in Firefox to see the difference. This variance is presently only seen in Internet Explorer and we are working on it. Anyhow, this factor of unintended padding in Internet Exlorer allows for a view of the background color, which some may find appealing and helpful.
Firefox users are in luck when it comes to our home page and our web site in general, as our site functions and appears best in Firefox and Safari, following by Internet Explorer, Opera, RealPlayer and Netscape. Many of the Jump Menu color effects are seen best in Firefox. We have been able to incorporate various image displays and color effects quite well within the Jump Menus and these are often only viewable or viewed best in Firefox.
